Admission Overview

Admission to the B.Ed. programme at Merit College of Education is carried out in a transparent, merit-based manner following TNTEU and Government of Tamil Nadu norms.

The process is overseen by the Admission Committee ensuring equal opportunity to all candidates.

Step-by-Step Admission Procedure

1. Application Issue

  • Application forms for the B.Ed. regular programme are made available in the college office from 15th May every year.
  • Candidates may collect the application form in person or request it by post/email from the administrative office.
  • The prospectus containing detailed information about eligibility, course structure, and fee norms will be provided along with the application.

2. Submission of Application

  • Duly filled-in applications must be submitted before the last date.
  • Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.
  • Applicants must ensure details are correct and supported by documents.

3. Verification of Certificates

  • Admission committee verifies all originals & photocopies.
  • Originals will be retained until completion of the course.

4. Selection of Candidates

  • Selection is based on academic merit & community reservation norms.
  • Priority to high-scoring UG candidates with relevant subjects.
  • List of selected candidates will be displayed on the notice board & website.

5. Admission Confirmation

  • Admission confirmed only after document verification & fee payment.
  • Candidates failing to report on time will lose their seat.

6. Orientation Programme

Newly admitted students undergo an Orientation Programme, introducing the college culture, academic system, and teaching methodology.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates seeking admission to the B.Ed. Degree Programme should have passed a recognized Undergraduate Degree (10+2+3 or 11+1+3 pattern) with the same major subject in Part III that corresponds to the subject for which they are applying for B.Ed. admission.

Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe (SC / ST) 40%
For Commerce & Economics Subjects Minimum 50% in P.G. Degree is mandatory

Note:

  • Candidates who have passed the qualifying examination from a recognized university in Tamil Nadu or any other state are eligible.
  • Applicants awaiting their final semester results may also apply, provided they submit proof of eligibility before admission confirmation.
  • Admission is purely provisional and subject to TNTEU approval.

All documents will be verified by the Admission Committee. Originals will be safely stored and returned after course completion.

Important Guidelines

  • Admissions are subject to the availability of seats and compliance with NCTE & TNTEU norms.
  • Fee once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.
  • Ragging, malpractice, or misrepresentation of facts during admission will lead to cancellation of candidature.
  • The college reserves the right to modify admission policies in line with government regulations.
